Action Research: Not Just About "Results"
Borg, S. (2016). Action
Research: Not Just About “Results”. Cambridge English: Research Notes
(66), 3-5.
In this insightful article, Borg
attempts to support teachers in carrying out action research projects in the
classroom. He provides a concise overview of five research projects as well as
the key characteristics of action research. Within each project, the author
details the goal, the number of students and the number of weeks it takes. The
author reflects on challenges for teachers created by the UK ELT sector, in
which they can engage in action research, as a way of professional development.
He not only reflects on the aforementioned challenges, but also describes the
consequences of the attempts to respond to such challenges. The author concludes
that the main effect of action research is not the specific results it creates
but the process on their motivation, enthusiasm and confidence.
